Mr Erdogan has publicly rejected demands from France, Russia and the US for a ceasefire, and has said Turkey supports its “Azerbaijani brothers”.

“We strive day and night for our country to take its deserved place in the global world order,” he said last week. “We stand by the oppressed everywhere from Syria to Libya, from the eastern Mediterranean to the Caucasus.”
